Inside Sales/Furniture Consultant (N. Austin)

CORT Furniture Rental is currently seeking a qualified candidate to be our Rental Consultant in our Austin District. This is a Tuesday-Saturday position.

Our Rental Consultant will greet customers as they enter the showroom and assist customers in selection of furniture by determining color and style preference. Essential duties will also include explaining to our customers, pricing, security deposits, and purchase options along with delivery procedures. Additionally you will verify the availability of inventory and establish a date of delivery with the customer based on knowledge of CORTâ€™S delivery schedules.

The ideal candidate will have previous sales experience as well as experience qualifying prospects over the phone, networking, and cold calling potential customers and closing sales in person or via the telephone. The ideal candidate may also have experience developing proposals and conducting follow-up service calls to determine current and future customer needs

To be considered, the ideal candidate must have:

* Previous (1+ years) sales experience,

* A high motivation and a winning attitude,

* Exceptional customer service skills,

* Must have good communication skills,

* Pay high attention to detail,

* Great organizational skills,

* PC competency,

*Ability to multi task

Black Friday is Coming to Town

As a kid, I had never heard of Black Friday. I did know that it marked the most successful one day of shopping in the entire year, though. For some unknown reason, people will go out and buy, buy, buy on the Friday.

Not to theorize, but I've been convinced there is some chemical additive in those phony fat turkeys people ingest that causes this phenomenon. I cannot find any references to the Friday after Thanksgiving being a massive shopping day back in the 800s. Eat Heirloom!

Be that as it may, I think we can at least start thinking of Christmas gifts for our computer-using friends. And this means everyone, since everyone uses a computer.

Over the next few weeks, I'll suggest gifts but first let's think about strategies. You cannot just buy tech gifts for people willy-nilly. They may not have the compatible systems to utilize the product, they may actually have the product, or it may be something they will never use. (Someone once bought me a laptop USC reading light, which I have never used. I think it is for seeing the keyboard in the dark.) And then there is the junk gift category, which also has to be avoided. I one got a USB fan that was on the end of a goose-neck so you could plug that into your laptop and have a nice breeze on a hot summer day. Useless and dumb.

Here are some suggested methodologies for picking out a spot-on gift:

* Spy: The first thing you have to do is find out what system someone has. Your best bet is to spy on your target by checking out his or her office or asking if you can use the computer to check your email. Nose around the OS a bit. Check and see what programs are running. If you are lucky you may get some good ideas for yourself, too!
* Be nosy: I'd advise you beginning the conversation by stating what hardware and software you use. Then, ask for recommendations to get some clue as to what the person may or may not have, or even know about. You should be able to figure out what he or she does not have but might need.
* Be blunt: This is often the best way to go. Tell someone you are buying tech gifts and you'd like him or her to give you a wish list. Most people will do it. Just do not get the cheapest thing on the list, if it can be avoided.
* Ask his or her spouse or friend what to get. These people will have likely heard complaints about needing one thing or another. These sorts of gifts tend to be greatly appreciated and remembered. "Wow I really needed this! How did you know?" This trick also prevents a double gift since the person may be thinking of buying the same gift. Now you get to do it for them and thus saving them the money and hassle.
* Check out Facebook: Read recent posts to see if he or she has been alluding to tech needs and scour pages he or she has liked.
* Buy a hard disk: If you are lazy just buy a portable USB hard disk from one of the many suppliers. Do not get anything smaller than a terabyte. Everyone can find a use for these little devices.

Begin the process now and be ready to go shopping on Friday. As for me, I'll wait until Christmas Eve and hang out with the Christmas Eve Men's Club of last minute shoppers. See you then.

IF OCCUPY LONDON GETS EVICTED THEN ‘OCCUPY OLD ETONIAN’ SHOULD SWANK UP TO BORIS’ TOWNHOUSE.

‘Occupy London protesters arrived outside City Hall to accuse the capital’s mayor, Boris Johnson, of defending the rich at the expense of ordinary Londoners “through thick and thin”.
The Tory mayor incensed Occupy demonstrators at St Paul’s Cathedral when he described them as “crusties” engaged in a “thoroughly maddening protest against capitalism” and repeated his call for them to be removed.
Organisers hit back, accusing Johnson of spending more time meeting City figures than ordinary Londoners. They pointed out that the mayor – who has called for the 50p top income tax rate to be abolished – has a combined annual income of more than £400,000 a year.
A small group of around 15 protesters left the camp outside St Paul’s to stage a peaceful “thank you party hosted by bankers to show their appreciation for all the support that mayor Boris Johnson has given them over the past year”.
Activists checked Johnson’s official diary, seizing on the fact that, between May 2008 and March 2011, he held 86 meetings with bankers and the financial services industry. In contrast, he held only 15 public meetings with Londoners and five press conferences, they said.
Occupy said the mock party was designed to show the way the Conservative mayor has stood by top earners and has warned politicians not to use rhetoric against bankers’ bonuses.’
